Stop and Grow

As we grow older, we want to better ourselves, we want to do what is best for us and not for others. We have to understand that we can’t please everyone and take care of ourselves. If we really want to grow then we need to pause and reflect on life and how we are living. We have to stop looking for perfection. We have to stop giving advice that we don’t bother to follow. We have to especially stop saying we are damaged or broken. We also have to stop comparing ourselves to people who are not competing with us.

As humans, we tend to compare ourselves especially to friends. We may think, “Oh, so and so has it better because they are traveling so much. Why can’t I travel so much?” However, we are not thinking about what they have to do in order to make those trips happen. What if they are paying it all in credit? What if they don’t go out for dinner any weekends to save up for the trips? We need to learn to focus on our lives and everything that belongs to us will come. We need to practice gratitude!

If you or anyone you know may be in need of someone to talk to and live in the Chicagoland area, feel free to call Olive Branch Counseling Associates at (708) 633-8000 and speak to a professional.
