Take it Easy

When summer rolls around, it often brings with it an unspoken pressure: make every moment count. Vacations, BBQs, road trips, kids’ activities, festivals—the calendar can fill up faster than we realize. And while these experiences can be joyful, the constant busyness can leave us feeling just as stressed and exhausted as the busy seasons we thought we left behind. It is important to be reminded that you do not have to be busy all summer. Slowing down and taking it easy might be exactly what your mind and body are craving.

If you are someone who is used to a go-go-go mindset, it can feel uncomfortable at first to leave open space in your schedule. Here are a few gentle ways to practice slowing down:

  1. Schedule “Nothing” Days: block off days (or even just a few hours) on your calendar with no obligations.
  2. Limit Commitments: Before saying “yes” to every invitation, pause and ask yourself, “Will this nourish me or deplete me?”
  3. Practice Saying No: It’s okay to turn down events, even fun ones, if your energy is low.
  4. Create Slow Rituals: Morning walks, sunset watching, journaling outdoors. Small rituals can anchor your days without feeling like tasks.
  5. Allow For Imperfect Moments: Not every day has to be amazing. Ordinary days have value too.

Rest is not laziness and slowing down is not a waste of time. It is a conscious choice to value your health, your peace, and your life experience.
