Managing Stress as a College Student

I am currently in my final semester of undergraduate studies. The past four years have been filled with so many awesome memories and prideful accomplishments, but also a lot of stress. How did I ever get through the semesters where I was juggling 6 classes, a demanding athletic schedule, an on-campus job, and a social life? Regardless of busy schedules, college can be a stressful time because of other factors. It’s an environment where you are responsible for your own care for possibly the first time, and where you have to meet a lot of new people, sometimes even the people you share a living space with. How do you manage this stress?

One thing that is great to practice in order to reduce your stress in college is time management and organization. Due to busy schedules, it is important for you to utilize your day strategically and get your responsibilities done so that you have enough time to rest at night. I recommend getting yourself a nice planner for each school year that has enough room for you to organize your responsibilities ahead of time, and write to-do lists for each day of the week. A to-do list allows you to focus on one responsibility at a time, and also provides a sense of accomplishment when you get to cross off each completed task.

Lastly, it is important for you to prioritize self-care. Participating in something that you enjoy, treating your body right, and taking controlled breaks from academic responsibilities will help reduce your stress. Set time aside to make friends, engage in hobbies, and to nourish and rest your mind and body completely.

But sometimes these strategies are not enough to reduce your stress levels.
