Final-ly Free!

As the month of May approaches closure, many college students around the country are getting ready to finish the semester, complete their final projects, and take final exams. I happen to be one of those college students. This is my last semester as an undergraduate college student so you can only imagine how much I’m looking forward to checking everything off of my academic to-do list. Only trouble is, I’m having a very difficult time getting started. The senioritis is strong, but I will prevail and finally be free in just a couple short weeks.

College, and even high school, finals can create a lot of stress for students. We struggle to sit through an entire class and school day without letting our minds get distracted so that we can retain all the information we need to know for just one exam and the end of the semester. On top of that, many students develop performance anxiety because of the pressure that comes with final exams. Students may even fall into depressive episodes if they are not confident in their test taking abilities. For those who are in contact with a college student experiencing finals soon, remind them to stay calm and take one thing at a time. Focus on one project, one presentation, one exam study guide at a time. Tell them to trust their knowledge and go into their exams with confidence! Summer break and mental relaxation will be here before you know it!

As for me, I feel like my senioritis is a mix of laziness, procrastination, and burnout from this long semester. But also, it is kind of difficult for me to process the end of this chapter of my life. Although I will continue being a student for the next two years, undergraduate school has been very memorable and has been the era of my life where I feel like I have found the person I want to be. It is bittersweet moving on from this chapter of life, but I know that once I do, it will be more accessible for me to work towards the person I envision myself being throughout adulthood.
