In many apps there is a feature called infinite scroll. This is a technique that automatically loads more content, such as videos, as you scroll. This can cause it to be harder to stop since there is no definite end. Many people find themselves losing a lot of time, even hours or days, scrolling through random information. Some of the population has even added this scroll to their daily habits which can interfere with tasks or activities such as chores or work. This interference may cause a feeling of wasting time, anxiety, being overwhelmed or overstimulated, and the content may make you feel inadequate. People, maybe even yourself, are searching for a way out, in order to become more productive and to avoid the feelings attributed to it.
One tip that may be helpful is to set an app limit in your settings. On Androids this can be done in a setting called “Digital Wellbeing” and on Apple devices it can be done in a setting called “Screen time”. Both of these apps allow for people to choose which app(s) they want to limit and set up a timer. Another tip is to designate certain activities or tasks as screen free. This will get rid of the urge to open up your phone to open an app to scroll. This may not always be useful, or you may need the brain break and just want to limit it so here is tip #3. On Apple products, you can set a timer in the clock app and set it for when the timer ends to close the app. This can be a good reminder that time has passed and hopefully cause you to examine if doing something else may be the right move. If you are looking for a more permanent fix, silencing the notifications, removing the app from the home screen, or deleting the app may be useful. This can cause you to not see it every time you open your phone removing the temptation.
