National Muffin Day: Some Healthy, Brain Happy Options (and How You Can Give to your Community)

Happy Saturday! As we all know by now, there are many national days and months across the world. At Olive Branch, we like to offer up positive ways to celebrate these days and ways to make them healthier for you, mentally and physically. Part of your mental health is taking care of your physical health, to give your brain the nutrients and energy it needs to function at its best. Today just so happens to be National Muffin day and we thought we would offer up some fun and healthy recipes to jumpstart your day or even your afternoon.

Muffins are a fun snack or even breakfast addition that gives necessary carbohydrates and can give you a dose of fruits or protein! This will provide you energy for the day to keep your brain moving. We wanted to provide a variety of recipes that cater to the many different allergens and diets that people follow, so look on below for whatever way you eat.

  • No Restrictions Recipe:

Here is a banana muffin recipe that could be adjusted easily for any diet, but has ingredients found in the average kitchen across America. Reminiscent of banana bread, but fun and more bite-sized!

  • Paleo & Gluten Free:

A lovely chocolate chip muffin, free of gluten (which is safe for celiac’s and gluten avoiders alike) and that follows the paleo diet!

  • Keto:

With a fun twist these cinnamon style muffins will remind you of a cinnamon sugar cake donut! These just so happen to be gluten free as well.

  • Vegan:

What kind of muffin post would this be without a recipe for blueberry muffins? These can easily be made with regular non-vegan or gluten-free ingredients as well and it only requires one bowl—less mess to clean up means more time to enjoy your day.

Another aspect of National Muffin Day that has started recently in San Francisco, was baking muffins and handing them out to those effected by homelessness in your city! Some even started bake sales to donate money to homeless shelters. NationalMuffinDay.org has been able to donate 15,000 muffins and tens of thousands of dollars across 45+ cities over the last six years. How great that muffins brought such joy to communities across America!

We hope you enjoy a restful day today, maybe with some muffins for you and your family—or maybe even for your community.
