Olive Branch Counseling Associates, Inc. is currently offering parenting classes by master’s level interns at a discounted rate! Thank You is a class on parenting that meets for six consecutive weeks. The Thank You class is based on the idea of mutual respect within the family. It is an Adlerian approach to parenting which fits beautifully with parenting children as a Christian. Attendees will leave each session with concrete ideas to address dilemmas experienced in parenting.
Session content includes sharing experiences, the goals of misbehavior, natural and logical consequences, communication skills, personality and birth order, and encouraging ourselves and other parents. Attendees are welcome to attend on their own or with the person who is their co-parent. If you like, rally a group of friends to attend who care about being the most effective parent they can be! We will schedule you at a time that is convenient for you. As a gift to friends and families in our community, we are offering this 6-week class for only $50!
Personally, I have completed this course with various clients. I have found that I learn something new every time. It is truly enlightening to be able to make connections between the parental patterns of my childhood and my approach to parenting now. The course offers a platform to explore how we parent, why we parent the way we do, and how our parenting style and our relationship with our children may benefit from utilizing the perspective to parenting provided by the Thank You class.
My favorite subject discussed in this course is that of natural and logical consequences. The first time I went over the material, it changed my opinion on the topic of “punishment”. Growing up, if I did something wrong, my punishment was to do 20 push-ups or walk up and down the stairs 100 times. Yes, those experiences were dreadful, and it was unlikely that I would “misbehave” in the same way again, but what was I really learning from those “punishments”?
This offer is good for the months of January and February, 2024. This class as offered in this format does not meet the requirements for court ordered parents. The class is also available for court ordered parents, however that is an eight to ten week class.
