My time as an undergrad intern here at Olive Branch has come to an end. It has been an experience I will never forget. I have learned so much these past several months. Being able to spend time with the children at Acorn Child Care has taught me overall patience and the different ways children learn. Although I have children of my own, being around a diverse group of children, I was able to learn things I wouldn’t have learned from my kids alone. It is sad to leave because you get to create a bond and relationship with these kids. In Heart Connection, I can’t even begin to address how privileged and grateful I was for being there as a facilitator. As a grieving mother myself, I found it hard to understand my son’s grieving process. Being part of this organization taught me the different ways to approach grieving children as well as learn the different ways, first hand, how they cope. Helping them in their journey was very rewarding as well as hearing their stories and how much they loved being in the group. Through our supervision meetings I felt like I learned a lot about sessions and pointers on how to deal with certain situations with clients. This internship has opened doors to me I would have never thought possible before. I will soon begin my journey as a graduate student pursuing a degree in Marriage and Family Counseling.
