Play Therapy
Working at the daycare has helped me understand that playing is very important for children. Playing allows children to communicate with others and it helps them express their feelings. I am learning the children as well as their different personalities. It is amazing how young children learn through play and interact with others. Since children express their feelings through play, it is important for adults to help children through difficult times. An example of a difficult time may be, if a child gets angry and hits others, or throw things across the room. Adults can help the child through play therapy with a trained practitioner who understands children’s play. According to the Association for Play Therapy (2016), ‘through play therapy, children learn to communicate with others, express feelings, modify behavior, develop problem solving skills, and learn a variety of ways of relating to others.’ When children are acting out through play it may indicate that something is going on. Children can benefit through play therapy because it helps them master life-long strategies.
